Sold out to VAG/MAN then?

Thought he was a Transit man through and through?

I lasted until the first adverts. I do admire much of what he has done and I did follow his motorcycle career. I just can't stand his presentation and that narrators voice . I can't watch it . I am sure he can stand the loss of me as a viewer and still sleep at night.

Just on to the second episode, as someone that works in the energy sector so far I am impressed with the non biased/factual correct information that is being show

I've recorded this, big fan of Guy as a presenter, not being into bikes I didn't know much about him before his TV exploits.

My first thought too. MAN must pay better.

Watched first episode, fell asleep about 50 mins in (roughly around the last adverts).. So much info poorly presented. Sorry Guy, I've enjoyed all your TV progs but this one didn't catch my attention. There were so many facts and figures about the change to wood from coal that could have been gone into. Coal locally sourced versus wood pellets (9x as much) shipped all the way from the US or Canada and the transportation by train. Ships and trains use a lot of diesel IIRC. Should have done comparisons.

I can't understand why they make sawdust into pellets then break the pellets back down to make sawdust? It's maybe something to do with transporting...

Even though he tried to explain why fuel prices have shot up I still don't understand it, he didn't do that very well and it's been something i've been wondering for a while. It seems like such an obvious question that anyone will know the answer to, yet nobody seems to know exactly.
I get that it's to do with gas, I know we get some gas from Russia, but ultimately that's where the trail runs dry.
I get that the price cap has been lifted, but again don't know why. Is it to cover losses made in earlier years and why were they making a loss then?

It's probably a huge and complex topic, so much so it isn't good TV perhaps.

Oh, don't! I really don't know why so many people revere Dibnah- he was, in my mind, an annoying little .

'So aye this 'ere boiler, aye, yeah, y'know, aye, yeah aye, y'know, ran on coal, y'know, like y'know, everything in y'know, the old'un days like. Aye'.

I liked him when he first started out, but then the fame seemed to get to him a bit and, you are right, he was rather annoying.

You only have to watch the original programmes about him to see what an incredibly selfish fker he was, too- no consideration for his wife or family whatsoever. Plenty of stories that it was worse than what was shown on TV and that chimney bricks weren't the only thing that Dibnah would regularly hit.

Agree

How can it possibly be better to import processed wood pellets from Canada? This is why I struggle with the net zero desperation, seems a bit bks when we are importing coal from Colombia and putting zero incentive on domestic solar

I've heard similar from a former work colleague whose father was the local bobby on the beat.

Anyhow, enough of the Fred Thread (I'm in the bit-of-an-arse camp too, didn't know the more pugilistic bits). I thought it was an interesting programme - I was also struck be the paradox of the pellets being greener, but not iyswim.

I thought it was pretty brave of Guy, and Channel 4, to conclude at least two of the episodes by expressing surprise that energy is as cheap as it is. The easy route would've been to kind of humour the viewer and lament that it is currently relatively expensive and leave it at that.

They also informed everybody of the role fossil fuels continue to play, without demonising it or appearing overly apologetic.

I found it an enjoyable series. My job is energy industry adjacent and I learned something every episode. Equally I think a ten year old could mostly understand it. A great job, I think.
