I've not always understood his films on first viewings but thoroughly bought in when watched again and again subsequently.


There's an interesting insight at the end of the article how, as a young man his mum took him to see blaxploitation movies:

Interestingly there's a theme throughout his films isn't there. A strong black character who features heavy.

Yeah, his mate Roger Avary. Actually co-wrote Pulp Fiction. Also wrote/directed Killing Zoe, starring Eric Stoltz and Gary Kemp. Good film, as it goes.

I’ve known this about him for about 20 years. He would talk about writing while working in a Blockbuster or something in Hollywood in early interviews.
