Now on Prime
I can’t find this film referenced in recent threads , I am sure it may have , but never mind.
Usually we find films that have multiple Oscars are not ones we like, and Everything ….. did not disappoint

We managed about 20 mins then gave up .We only knew the plot from reviews .
The dialogue was a confusing mix of English language and subtitles . The dialogue was difficult to follow with characters all talking at once ,too much background noise made even the dialogue we were able to follow (just) indistinct .

I know the comments to this , most likely will be to have given the film time , but if in the first 20 mins or so it did not grab us , that is 20 mins of our lives we cannot get back .

One of the best films I've ever seen, especially for the key message about what makes a strong woman and a man.

My whole family loved it too.

Me 50, Mrs D 47, kids 13 and 11

And yes you gave up too soon, kids wanted to, I'd seen it before, they think it's amazing!

The first 20 mins or so is very slow but I think it's essential to set up all the main characters. My favourite film from recent years and well worth struggling through the first 20 minutes to get to the good stuff later on.

How did the editor win an Oscar for that? The film could easily have played one hour shorter.

As for Jamie Lee Curtis winning Best Supporting, rather than Stephanie Hsu? That's just a travesty.

All in all, a good idea stretched far beyond its limitations, IMO.

Glad it's not just me.

I can sit through some utter crud but I had to give up on this half way through.

I watched it a while back and had thankfully forgotten about it......then it pops up on the Oscars.

Then wins, what! like 7 awards WTAF!

Cocaine Bear was far more entertaining.

You can watch it 'for free' if you have Amazon Prime.

It's worth a go - some great ideas but also the plot is all over the place with lots of 'randomness' and angst that seems to be so prevalent these days.

I liked it on the whole but have to agree that a lot of the praise out there is really overblown. With better editing and some more restraint from the directors it could have been a whole lot better.

Watched it at the cinema.

My wife and daughter loved it. I found it a complete head fk.
I won't bother watching it again, even for free.

I'm usually the same - Best picture at the Oscars is usually code for "steaming pile of poo" but in this case, I thought EEAAO was really superb.

I loved the wackiness of it, I loved the characters, I loved the way it was filmed and put together etc. An outlier for me and one I will watch again.

Not just me then. I made it about an hour. Tried very hard to follow/like but I was beaten.

I'd hoped it'd be like Crouching Tiger; take a bit of effort, but well rewarded for sticking with it. I was mistaken.

The Blue household loved it. But then we're kinda into the weirder end of sci-fi. .
Thought it was a great romp.

It was an interesting concept but it became very confusing.

I watched it last week.

It was quite bonkers, but in a good way I thought. The OH gave up after about 45 mins.

It's different, but that's a good thing IMO.

Saw it with my daughter at the cinema at the weekend. We loved it. Yes very odd but all the better for it.

In the first scene with JL Curtis she points to an award as best auditor. I joked with my daughter that it looked like a butt plug. Little did I know…

I tried watching it last night with my wife, she got through about 15 minutes before doing something else, I struggled on for half an hour before I switched off.

We then went on to Murder Mystery 2 which was also awful, a bad night of films for us.

Watched this with the wife this evening. Thought it might be a bit of a chick flick. But no, it’s essentially a st version of the matrix mixed with my beautiful Launderette.

Dismal confusing ste, not Oscar worthy. But can only assume it met with the Hollywood woke agenda and that JLC needed a gong.

Pretty much this. I just couldn't stick with it. I was astonished when it did so well at the Oscars, but then i remember diversity.

Oh Christ above, do we really have to resort to politicising everything (everywhere etc) ? I loved it , but fully understand why others didn't - that doesn't make me 'woke ' , PC or biased, purely because the film featured strong women and non white ones at that . I genuinely cannot understand why anybody would want to watch the latest Bond , Marvel film or John Wick . I'd only watch them at gunpoint , frankly but they are obviously very popular with many on PH . Fine , their choice . I wouldn't dream of insulting them by(for example) suggesting they are culturally barren , right wing knuckle draggers as that simply would be neither fair nor true .

You didn’t have to like the film but using the “woke” word is just lazy and inaccurate. The film was about a Chinese immigrant family in the US and the main characters were appropriately Chinese. There was no shoehorning in of different ethnicities just for the sake of it. The four main characters were two women and two men. Importantly the two men were not belittled, were not the source of all problems and didn’t need to be saved by the women. If you made it to the end of the film you would find the real hero is the husband. Yes the daughter is a lesbian but the only impact on the story is that the mother is embarrassed about admitting that to her father .
