Been getting a critical pounding, but really enjoyed it. It's definitely for people who love the games, so a lot of it will go over some people's heads, but worth it alone for Bowers musical numbers. 9 Yr old was absolutely buzzing after.

I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed it. My kids (six and nine) both want to see it having seen the trailer and I was secretly quite looking forward to it as well but had seen some poor reviews.

I think we'll give it a shot.

My wife has taken our eldest (6) to go see it today, just got a sneaky text from her during it to say how good it is.

We really enjoyed the Sonic films, so if its anything like that, it will do well!

Clearly - they both enjoyed it.

My contribution to this thread is now complete and I hope it's a valid contribution.

As to yours? The less said the better on that one. confused

Just been see this with my daughter, I'm not a film person to be honest, but even I enjoyed it :-) Took me back to my NES and SNES gaming days ha ha!

Went with my daughter yesterday, it's a lot better than most of the reviews say. Lots of fun, short running time, never a dull moment, the animation is very good and Jack Black is amusing as Elton Bowser.

My whole family really enjoyed it. Sure, it’s not going to win any Oscars but it was fun, fairly short by modern film standards, and had plenty to keep Nintendo nerds happy.

Clearly audiences haven’t been out off by the poor reviews either since it’s broken box office records for an animated film.

Also a winner here. 7 and 10 yr olds loved it. Grandparents and I stayed awake.

I can only agree with the general view, it’s an hour and a half of good fun that’ll entertain most people but particularly so if you’ve played the games at any point in your life (I’m Gameboy generation myself smile )

It's alright - it looks really good and there are some fun bits, but plot wise it is pretty weak (though not any different to the traditional Mario platform games I suppose!)

I thought it was awful.
The Bowser song is after the credits and was possibly the only good bit in it.
I briefly fell asleep and, looking back, I wish I’d had a longer sleep.
My son and daughter loved it but they’re idiots!

We took our 6 year old to see it yesterday. She seemed to enjoy it, but it wasn't really my cup of tea though and I actually love arcade/video games. We went to watch it at Everyman...so the glasses of wine that I had definitely helped me get through it to be fair!

6, 10 and 40 year old loved it. Went and saw it today. So many little Easter eggs for the nerds (like me) out there.

I've still got my twin screen Donkey Kong handheld that I had back in 1982 when I was only 9 years old! I also liked seeing some of the more modern games like what is on the Switch now as well.

It wouldn't be a film that I would normally choose to watch, but I guess that it did work well enough for us as a family though.

Thought it was ok, the 6 year old thought it was good though, script seemed a bit weak, so many of mama Mia’s!? Why!
A few laugh out loud moments which made it worth it though.

I thought Princess Peach did look hot on the bike though.
