I watched the first episode of this on Sky Doucmentaries last night about the Retendon murders. They’ve got some decent people involved, including Dave McKelvey, who I became aware of from Michael Gillard’s book, Legacy, and then they went and spoiled it all by interviewing everyone’s favourite plastic gangster, Dave Courtney.

Two more episodes to go and it does seem quite interesting. There’s certainly the suggestion that the wrong people were convicted.

I watched the first 2 eps last night as well, it was very interesting indeed.

The 90’s was an odd time, plenty of naughty stuff around, easily available and a lot of money being made in the darker circles.

I find it perplexing that the police had zero to go on for a fair while, then took the word of (as implied by the doco) a fairly dodgy witness with a very plausible agenda to serve himself with.

The guys who were convicted live fairly locally to me (stowmarket I think, or thereabouts) and the general feeling among the families is that it is a wrong conviction, however that’s only from what I’ve read in the local news etc.

I’ve still got ep3 to watch. Fascinating stuff albeit quite a rabbit hole when you start reading stuff about it on the web.

It’s amazing how much of a following the case still has after 30 years.

The third ep is interesting - the interview with Nipper is emotional but his dad never did it.

Series is slightly discredited with the use of “expert witness” Dave Courtney.

I don’t think those convictions are sound - there’s a lot more to the story than anyone in the general public knows.

Depends on the context as to why he was included? I suspect it's in relation to that corrupt cop who fitted up that girl over the drugs in the car so her ex could get custody?

It’s a weird case that’s for sure.
I remember it from back at the time as mate’s garage sold the Range Rover they were found in.
Police interviewed them all at the time.

I'm also pretty sure that the bodies were left in it when it was taken away after it had happened. When it's on the back of the truck with the green tarpaulin over it they're apparently still in it.

It was mentioned on the programme that the bodies were still in the Range Rover when it was moved from Rettendon. Watched the first two episodes. Will try to watch the third in the next few days.

The autopsy photos have been widely available online for years. Morbid curiosity got the better of me years ago, they're pretty grim.

I think a "fan" of the murders bought it.

Ah, I remembered it correctly.

I will try to get this, do you know if it's available on Virgin Media?

Grumps.

Watched the first 2. The private investigators seem to be making a story out of nothing at times (a bit like lots of media bs). They did the drive and felt there was not enough time to get there etc….but I am sure that some speeding crims on god knows what could have gotten there a few mins earlier.

Exactly. I can't imagine they were hanging round.

Three hours of my life I won’t get back, what utter garbage.Nothing new whatsoever.Who on earth commissioned that, was more like an embarrassingly cheap advert for a new PI firm.
