Out of these 2 greats, who do you rate as the better actor?

I like them both as actors but I don’t think either of them are actually that good as actors. What I mean is Robert De Niro plays Robert Di Nero and Al Pacino plays Al Pacino.
If I had to go for one it would be Pacino for his performances in Scarface and Insomnia.

If Pacino was less shouty, I’d like him more.

This, without Pacino being quite so shouty as above!

De Niro for. His performances in Raging Bull, Taxi Driver and Cape Fear show the huge range he has as an actor.

Mine too. Was borderline obsessed with it for a while.

Can highly recommend the book “Heat 2” for fans of the film. A sort of prequel/sequel to the film. Co-written by Michael Mann.

Carlitos Way proves Pacino has the real talent.

It doesn't get great ratings and perhaps I wasn't paying attention enough to spot the flaws, but I liked Righteous Kill from 2008 with them both in. I saw it quite a while ago but noticed it was on TV last night.

De Niro always seems to had been in more recognisable films, and has been diverse as an actor.

Pacino always less diverse but god does he do it well.

Ones thing for sure, you won't see some of the quality again when you read the Full list of films from both.

PS After reading about De Niro on Wikipedia his paternal father was actually gay....interesting fact.

Such an underrated film. They’ve both had stellar weformances but I personally feel De Niro has been helped by working with better talent.

Ie his best films have a better supporting cast and writer/directors.

Pacino is more of a one man show.

I suppose you could boil it down to de Niro picking better projects.

'Awakenings' was good - something quite different for De Niro. Haven't seen it for years but I remember thinking it must have been difficult to act that role.

De Niro's comedies are usually guff. I don't know what it is, but he doesn't seem suited to comedies. He has done a good variety of stuff though, possibly more diverse than Pacino.

Say what?! Midnight run is the bomb, the Fokker movies too. I could watch those weekly. De Niro playing them as a straight man makes them all the better for it.

Yep they're good. Haven't seen Midnight Run for 20 odd years but I don't remember it as a comedy so wasn't putting that in the 'guff' category. I was thinking more of Bad Grandpa.

I have gone off de Niro since he did the silly 'Meet the Fokkers' type films and the shoddy advert for Kia Niros.

Surely he doesn't need the money?

Actually that might be a better question - who had the most stinkers? Gigli, Bad Grandpa, Godsend, Godfather III? Personally I think there's barely a fag paper between them but if you twisted my arm, De Niro's had the slightly more interesting career but it's as subjective a thing as I can imagine.

De Niro has the sharper suit. But I reckon Al Pacino has better tanned feet.
