We have a basic Virgin TV package, but as we sway towards on demand series we rarely use. It also has the absolute worst interface, it's 10 years behind where it should be.

Went for a sky stream, face value £26 a month for 18 months is pretty good anyway but it's actually a lot better than that:

Netflix included (£8 value per month)
Discovery+ App included (£4 value per month)
Quidco cash back (was £50 £2.70 value per month)
!edit! Apple TV free for 6 months (£41.24 value)

I was paying for Netflix anyway, so for an extra 15 per month I'm getting a small tidy box with great remote, decent live TV with pause, rewind etc (not quite as good as the box), getting discovery + which is pretty good, plus access to all of Sky's entertainment packages inc sky Atlantic, on demand etc. Apple TV trial for 6 months too.

Just thought I'd share as I think it is excellent value, especially if you already have Netflix.

Same, it really is a no-brainer if you already have, and use, a Netflix subscription.
If not, it's more debateable, but having all the HD versions of the regular channels I watch is worth it alone.
Only thing I'm not sold on is the menu. It takes about 5-6 menu choices just to get to the EPG.

The menu could definitely be better I agree, I tend to use the standalone TV apps for Netflix and discovery and keep the stream just to sky itself.

But yeah, I think it's a great addition for the money - we did downgrade our Netflix package, quality seems fine though and we can manage with one device at a time.

Oh I should think so - oh I forgot to add. They just had a bonus to add Apple TV free for 6 months too! Will update my post.

When I looked at it recently in connection with a house move it appeared that Sky were encouraging an upgrade from Sky+ HD to Sky Stream but were not encouraging Sky Q users to change to Sky Stream. The reason being that according to Sky the Sky Q already has everything that Stream can offer although a major limitation of Sky Q is that it only supports one 4K TV per household.

According to the media the take up of Sky Stream has been dire and Sky have recently announced big job cuts. It is difficult to see a long term future for Sky as the demand for linear TV channels declines and everything goes On Demand as in BBC1 vs iPlayer. Sky is trying to future proof by providing access to all the apps but apps can be run directly from a smart TV or a Firestick. When Sky pulls the plug they will by missed by some but others won't even notice. Same goes for BBC when they lose the licence fee.

Don’t disagree, the live tv aspect is the item I use the least but it’s nice to have it.

We still gravitate to our on demand apps.

Plus £5 a month if you want to skip through adverts on Live Pause (up to the live broadcast only), Restart ('Watch from start'), Playlists, or Sky On Demand. That's a new thing they have introduced for Sky Stream and Sky Glass only. Normal Sky Q/HD users can skip for free.
