Help its driving me mad MI5 series
Discussion
Ok so following a glorious steak and a few glasses of rum. Scrolling through Amazon Fire I alighted on what I think is a series. So it was fiction and concerning MI5. And I think its new. It opened on three people chatting in a bar or cafe. A woman and two guys. The chat finishes and one guy gets up and leaves. The man & woman remain and appear to be colleagues. She notices a 4th individual following the guy who has just left them. And he is carrying something.
They both race out of the cafe to chase down this 4th chap. Who then runs into a building and gets in a lift. Thinking he is home free he is surprised when the male of the two colleagues runs into the lift. Everybody gets out leaving them in the lift. The assailant shows him a clear glass vial containing a liquid. A fight ensues and the assailant wins. Stepping back he smiles whilst tossing the clear liquid into the lift. By this time the female colleague arrives and has to watch her colleague die inside the lift from whatever this substance was.
Now they want to find who killed their colleague. Next something goes on where the woman goes over to the Netherlands or some such. She meets a woman who has reported her boyfriend/husband missing. And I think he is some kind of nuclear scientist. As it turns out the wife/girlfriend is also a member of the intelligence service as they find out.
I swear im not making this up. But im buggered if I can find it again. Or whether it was on Prime, Netflix etc. Its driving me nuts.
Can anybody shed any light ?

Is it Spooks?
It's quite an old series now but its the only one I can think of that was based around MI5

The boss is an English actor. Again dont know his name
. But he seems to regularly play these types of characters. And it turns out in the series he is the father of what appears to be the lead female character. She wants the job of the departed colleague. But another colleague in the dept. A black guy is persuaded to apply by the boss. Sorry pathetic isnt it.
Is it "The Blacklist"?
I've never seen it, but the marvel that is ChatGPT suggests it is.

Based on the description you provided, the TV show you are referring to is "The Blacklist." It follows the story of a former government agent named Raymond "Red" Reddington who surrenders himself to the FBI after eluding capture for decades. He offers to help the FBI track down and apprehend other dangerous criminals on his "blacklist" but only if he can work with a rookie profiler named Elizabeth Keen.
The specific scene you described seems to be from an episode in the early seasons of the show. The characters you mentioned are likely Raymond Reddington (the male colleague) and Elizabeth Keen (the female colleague). They witness their colleague being attacked and killed in the elevator by an unknown assailant. Later on, the storyline takes them to the Netherlands, where they encounter a woman whose boyfriend or husband, a nuclear scientist, has gone missing.
"The Blacklist" is known for its mix of crime drama, action, and mystery, with an overarching plot involving Reddington's own secret motives and the mysteries surrounding his true identity.

It’s taken me all evening but finally I know the name of the actor playing the MI5 boss. Stephen Dillane. Right now I’m off to see if I can find out what he has been in.
Edit::
Update so the series is called Red Election from 2021
My god that hurt. Sorry folks and thanks for trying to help.

Would you believe I found an actor called Alex Jennings then typed in British actor like Alex Jennings. The actor in question is Stephen Dillane. Anyway it was offered on Disney plus in 2022. Where it still is and I enjoyed the first episode. Even though I was half cut.
