Gran Turismo film
Discussion
Just back from watching Gran Turismo film on the big screen.
The film is based on a true story of how a teenager goes from playing Gran Turismo in his bedroom to driving for the Nissan Nismo team.
The acting is appalling, the leaps from one class of car straight into another are ridiculous, the F&F style downshifts are cringey and the continuity error in the climax race is awful (look out for the different cars used for race shots and close ups)..
However, I quite enjoyed it as a sort of British version of Days of Thunder (there are quite a few similarities between the films).
I won’t say anything else for fear of spoilers.

Other than being a product placement for Gran Turismo, PlayStation, Nissan and Sony Walkman, I liked it. I’d agree with it being a British Days Of Thunder and the Fast & Furious gear changes did get annoying. The whole police chase scene with game bonus pop ups didn't fit with it being about GT at all, the glazed brakes thing seemed odd, there were a few other strange bits. It was directed by Neill Blomkamp though, and he did District 9, Oats Studios on YouTube, and wanted to make Alien 5, so he gets a pass for anything with me.
Now, I’m off to buy a Nissan and a Walkman for some reason.

Just saw it with my son. Expected to hate it, but quite enjoyed it.
