I know there's been a few posts on the Netflix thread but this show really deserves it's own thread.

Please discuss

Watched a couple last night, quite good, certainly very different to a lot of recent stuff and a welcome change to "Sex Education" ehich my wife was watching which started out ok but is now a right wkfest, literally in some cases.

Shades of Misery, the Stephen King book/film, in that its a woman who starts off a bit unhinged and goes completely batst mental, also reminds me of Jims mad/racist girlfriend from Friday Night Dinner.

It takes a few more twists and turns along the way if you've only watched the first few episodes. Not sure it needs it's own thread, but it's some good tv, very thought provoking and reminds me of how lucky/unlucky some of us are along the way in all the decisions we make.

Watched a few episodes last night, it's pretty good drama.

It's supposedly a stylised version of the main characters real life experiences.

Binged it at the weekend and thought it was pretty good, specially since it was a true story one.

Watched a few episodes, for some strange reason I thought the actor playing Martha Scott was Danielle Macdonald from the pictures I had seen, the first episode where she walks into the pub I said to my missus christ shes got bigger and then realised it was another actor.

Jessica Gunning. I've seen her in The Outlaws, and What Remains, a short series a few years ago about the body of a missing woman found in a flat.

I thought exactly the same!

It was all a bit self indulgant towards the end. He craved the fame which his on stage monologue brought him and then it turns out he (the actor) was the actual guy who it happened to in real life, so he gets to ride the wave of fame for another year or so via this show on Netflix.

I enjoyed the series, I knew going into it, it was a 'real story'.

It was more complex that first impressions, not a simple case of "here's my story about all the horrible things that happened to me that brought me here". Donny seemed to be a reluctant, but willing participant in what happened with Darrien, and even Martha, there was a lot of things he could have done, but choose not too, because when it suited him, he wanted the attention.

I struggled to have any empathy for Donny for these reasons.

I felt like shouting at the screen constantly. "WTF are you doing man?"

I can't say I enjoyed watching it.

I've watched it twice my wife wanted to watch it, I don't think the intention was to come over as the victim & he was to blame for encouraging Martha on & he craved the fame that he knew how he was getting it was wrong but couldn't help his craving for the drugs & fame that came with the abuse he let himself receive . His stand up was not very amusing tbh

He has refused to name who his stalker really is but I'm sure if you wanted to find out one could.

Agreed, in fairness Richard doesn't assign Donny the role of victim or 'Goodie', even Darrien isn't all 'Baddie'.

Obvs Internet sleuths are tying to find the real Darrien and Martha, saying 'the story isn't about them', but I don' think that's really his decision to make. He's created it and some people are going to want to know who they are in real life.

Excellent series.

What I found odd was that I never warmed to the Donny Dunn character and come the end, had a greater level of sympathy with Martha. I can't recall any other film or series where I found myself rooting for the baddie.

The bit with the teapot / gout.... I properly laughed out loud at that! I don't think I was supposed to but I found it funny!

I've seen a few interviews and posts from Gadd that seem to be playing down the extent of the 'real' part of it being a true story, saying that it's truth lays in many separate, non-related experiences rather than a singular one as conveyed in the series. I do wonder if this is as a result of the interest around the Producer.

Started watching this yesterday evening. The first episode I thought was daft and kept saying to myself 'Stop egging her on!'

Was going to leave it but then watched another.

Ended up watching all 7 episodes back to back.

Great writing and also very disturbing.
