WSQK - The Squawk (Stranger Things)

Just stumbled across this pop up radio station to promote the Netflix Stranger Things series.

I’ve never seen Stranger Things but the radio station is remarkably well done. I worked in a USA summer camp in the ‘80s and this is exactly what a AOR radio station was like - right down to the adverts, jingles and DJ chatter.

There’s even an ad for a video rental shop which says “no subscription required”

I might even give Stranger Things a go so I suppose it’s done its job.

It’s only on until Jan and is worth giving a go - in particularly if you’re in the mood for some ‘80s guilty pleasures…

Really well done and makes you feel like you are in 80s USA.

Love the adverts and the music playlist is great.

Will be playing this in the car commuting to work.

I did check for another thread on this topic but obviously not very diligently…

Apparently Primark is selling WSQK t-shirts. Might treat myself and give the TV series a try…

No worries. It's really good isn't it? (the radio station not the TV programme). Really enjoying the retro sound. Seems like I'm not alone.

I listened to it a lot over the weekend. Got to the point where every advert and news report had got repeated. Nice novelty for a while then turned into a dumbed down Absolute 80's.

Interesting read - I think those involved clearly have a love of radio and have thrown themselves into this project.

I remember reading Peter Kay’s autobiography and he talked about how hard they worked to make Forever FM sound like a real radio station for Carshare. Same principle here.

I’m listening to it a lot - it really does take me back to working on that summer camp. A lot of guilty pleasures in the playlist too…
