It's a great programme. I loved the Fred Dibnah bit up on the roof of the Duomo in Florence with the melon skin!
Great entertainment mixed in with good factual information. Also reminded me it's a year since I last went to Florence, must go back.

He manages to get the right balance between fact, interest and a bit of light hearted humour (e.g. his comment about the Fiat 500)

Not yet but we got a good insight into how he goes about it. Firstly he serves them wine and tells them that the correct English toast is to down it in one. After a few of these they start giggling, the camera stopped after that. Although that might have something to do with the fact he was drinking on 2 separate occasions with old Italian men last night.

I am also sad and was wondering what camera he was using.

It's not an SLR, and it certainly looked last night like he had a proper lens on it. So that leaves us with an older film compact, an Olympus Pen or other recent mirror-less digital, or a modern rangefinder like a Leica.

I'm guessing a Leica M8
