Quad - flail mower
Discussion
Anyne got or used one?
Looking at these two; Geo 145 and geotech pro, both about 2k and cant see much between them apart from one has th briggs and stratton which i beleive is a well respected motor, dont know on the other, one has 34 as opposed to 28 knives, one looks slightly better built but difficult to see properly

Thinking of one of these for that first cut of the season when grass has got too long for th Iseki, so only used once a year on 5 acres of outr fields, may use it to trim after that if its finish is any or its pretty quick
Thoughts?

I can't comment on those two, but I use one occasionally and they're very good.
But they make a mess - piles of long cut grass that need to be moved... but for speed, they're terrific.
I would imagine you could use one all season if you had a decent one (the one I use is very agricultural). That way you'd only be taking a fine cut.
Turning a quad on decent lawn is not recommended either - but you'll know this already I imagine.
5 acres of grass is huge. I have 2 and it feels a lot.

Thats great, info on what theyre actually like is what i was after..
we have inner gardens which i take care of on this which is bloody fantastic.

but cutting the acres of mid fields is taking its toll on it as theyre a bit uneven to say the least and my back takes a right hammering, 5 years and ive had enough (so has iseki)
Its all relative, farmers takes care of our other fields (12 acres) and has no time for these 4 acres, having dealt with them for as long as i have on the iseki will mean having this machine will feel like absolute luxury! Sat on a comfy quad for a couple of hours? BLISS:
One of them promotes the easy replacement of bearings for the flail roller so that apeals as id have thought this would be a high wear n tear area of the deck

My other concern is a 15hp motor for the larger 1.45m deck, any idea what the hp yours was?
While it's a much heavier duty machine and probably cutting way thicker grass, I've got a dyno tested 169hp going through a 2.1 meter flail topper and have stalled it. You'll need to keep on top of the trimming to not have to do it at a crawl. I’ve got the 1.2 mtr logic unit I bought new 6 months ago to cut our fields of similar size approx 5 acres or so, it does a fab job & is very versatile cutting brambles & small bushes without compliant.
Only Downside it cost a hell of a lot more money than the units you highlighted which I was aware of but I’m a quality first get what you pay for kind of guy & having run over piles of old barbed wire & wooden rails & bricks stuck in the grass without any damage it’s been money well spent.
I’ve taken to using it to cut our rustic garden grass too as it’s so much quicker than the ride on mower.
Just did the first field cut of the year after the grasss had a mega growing spurt with the rain & sunsine of a week ago, took 4 hours but if done more regularly think that 2.5 hrs ish should be doable.

I was thinking similar. I picked up a 5' one off ebay for about £400, I have it behind a 100hp Case and it definitely knows it's there. As said, It’s the first cut of season that’s always hard as it’s so long by the time ground is hard enough, after that it’s easy to keep on top of.
I don’t mind going slow with the quad as it’s very comfortable, there is a 22hp upgrade possible on that unit for an extra 200 so maybe go for that.
The videos show them coping ok at slow speed

Do they upgrade the drive belts too? I don’t mind going slow with the quad as it’s very comfortable, there is a 22hp upgrade possible on that unit for an extra 200 so maybe go for that.

Think you will find that it too wide for the power unless the grass is short / not dense or you drive at a snails pace....
Argh, was just about to post similar. Our neighbour got one to run behind his 8x8, to cut approx 6 acres of ex arable turned grass. he struggled to drive it slowly enough and after that got the local farmer to do it.
BUMP - please.
Wifey has recently decided we are far better off with an ATV than our friendly chap in the village and his Fergy 35 (I want) and toppers / harrows etc.
All Good with that, and guided her to a decent Honda 420 second hand shes been using for poo picking duties in the 1acre paddock. The Horse takes car of the grass cutting, but a 90 minutes with the strimmer every 2 or 3 weeks versus a flail mower is now up for debate.
Seems not many decent second hand ones come up for sale. She's been told Logic is the brand but for the use case of once every two weeks for an acre of weed whacking, it seems a lot of brass. £1,600 on ebay for 2nd hand, versus :
THIS .-----> https://quadbikeparts.co.uk/atv-quad-bike-tow-behi...

free delivery, 2 yr warranty saves me borrowing a van and driving the length of the country too fetch an old 'un.
So. Opinion the powered folk of PH please ??
field for context, as you can see, not cutting back acres of meadow :

lastly,
thoughts on trundling that on the back of the quad 2miles down a country lane to the livery yard?
