Morning,

I've currently got Drayton RTS1 (230v) thermostats that have yellowed quite badly. Would like to change them, and replace with digital thermostats. From what I've worked out, the Honeywell DT4 should be fine.
The RTS1 has 4 wires, DT4 is 2 wires.
From my understanding, I need to connect the red and yellow wires to the terminals, then terminate the blue and green/yellow in separate blocks.

Does that sound correct?

Cheers.

No idea; we can't guess from your description of the coulours of the wires. Post a picture of your current thermostat showing the wires & the little connection drawing & post a link to the item you want to replace it with or better still a picture of the connections.

Actually you may well be able to lightly bleach / wash them... or just replace

Thought about that, but dial is yellowed too. I'd have to guess the temperature if I sprayed that. Could be an interesting game in the winter tho!!

It could work... if it's too cold, turn it up slowly until you hear the click...

My Honeywell thermostat is the colour of a 1980's dot matrix printer that's been left in a locked office in Dubai for 40 years, but it still goes... in fact I really need to clean the contacts as it does buzz rather a long time before kicking in. No idea how to though, and it's got mains inside!

Try Hydrogen Peroxide (Retrobrite):

You need the max strength stuff.

Red & yellow to A & B, insulate the other two.

My house has got 3 thermostats, a fancy Hive one, then 2 yellow 80s old ones, which I guess aren’t in use any more. Can I just remove them as we decorate rooms? The boiler was installed at the same time as the Hive was fitting, so assuming the old thermostats aren’t connected to anything.

Dangerous to assume old wiring isn't live!

I did this, but the wiring was still connected to the junction box so when it got colder and the rads should have come on, the boiler never got the signal.

So, get a sparky to bypass them in the junction box.

Thanks both - will add that to the list I've got for when we get an electrician in next.
