I think I may have burnt the lawn with too much fertiliser...

Long story short, had the lawn spreader on the wrong setting and over done it. I'm quite annoyed at my self for such a daft mistake as I usually keep the lawn so nice and have fed it soo many times.

Anything I can do to and rectify it? It's granular 10-4-4 off the shelf lawn feed...

I've have it plenty water to try and dilute it but it just looks such a mess

I think that'll recover pretty fast. It looks good even with this problem!

It’ll come back, common occurrence.

Green thumb are worth considering, their treatment is a spray and always seems to work better.

It will come back. Did you go over that area twice?

What product did you use? Was it one of those all-in-one weed, feed and iron? If so, it’ll be the weedkiller and/or iron component that’s most likely to have scorched it.

That lawn clearly doesn’t have a widespread weed problem, so you don’t need weedkiller. And it looks plenty green enough so is unlikely to have an iron deficiency. You should therefore be using a straight feed-only product, which is less likely to scorch. Treat any isolated weeds with a squirty bottle of lawn weedkiller (make sure it’s the one specifically for lawns, not a general purpose weedkiller).

I like to use a lower setting on the spreader, and feed a bit more often to compensate. This reduces the chances of scorching even further.

That will recover absolutely fine. You’ve already done the right thing, which is to water it well.

Thanks all for your thoughts, you've put my mind at rest and gave me the reassurance I think I needed.

As for the product, yes it was Westland All-in-one, which to be honest I don't usually use on the front lawn, I usually reserve it for the back lawn that gets more traffic and therefor more susceptible to widespread weeds etc.
I usually use a feed only on the front (lawn in the pics) using Westland Ultragreen routinely which I have used for years (previously ultra green plus) and have great results with. However, I thought I'd use the 'all in one' product on this occasion as I noticed alot of clover appearing. I'll not be doing that again... I think the problem has been a combination of lawnspreader accidentally on the wrong setting, coupled with going over the same area twice in some parts and of course the wrong product.

Thanks again (still p**sed off at my self) biggrin

Apart from that temporary hitch it looks very smart; I wish more householders would make some effort rather than putting block paving over everything.

Thanks smile

I do love my garden, and you're right it would be nice if more people made a little effort, I hate to see everything paved and artificial turf everywhere. There is a place for hard landscaping but not the entirety of a front garden. But I can't speak for everyone's situation, I just know being in the garden brings calm to a busy life (and stress on this occasion with over fertilising haha)

Reminds me of a garden expert on the radio, answering a caller asking about his lawn.

After going through various things to do he finally came to feeding ' look on the back of the package of fertiliser, and whatever the dose is give it half as much', caller ask why only half, the reply ' garden centres and fertiliser people are out to take your money, put on half as much and your lawn will still look good and you'll only have mow it half as often'.

Just let it grow out.

And if you are using a powdered 4in1 switch to a dedicated granular feed.

When I was in the industry we had a rival called Synchemicals. Their lawn fertiliser product had half as much N in it as ours per m2, was cheaper, and didn't work as well, but it outsold us massively. I guess that's the power of good marketing.
