Having nearly bankrupted myself installing an entirely new central heating system, I’m wondering it is worth taking the radiators (seven of them) to a scrapyard to recoup some cost. Or are they worthless as scrap?

Remove the fittings 1st, they will probably be worth more than the steel

A certain section of society certainly thinks so. I put one on the driveway and then went back inside to get the 2nd one and by the time I was back outside the 1st on had gone !

True. Recently had a couple of radiators changed and the plumber asked if I minded if he placed them down the end of the drive rather than took them away as he didn't have the space at home to create a pile that was worth weighing in. I was extremely skeptical so he said that if they were still there the next afternoon he would swing by and take them. Had a knock on the door while he was still here tidying up.

It's going to depend where you live I would guess?

Put them on fb market place for a few £.

Somebody will pay more than scrap for them and also save you the drive.

I advertised mine on the local Facebook community page (for free), and they were collected by a scrapper within hours.

Perhaps I was too generous giving them away, but I was pleased to get rid of them with no fuss.

It's not just the drive, it's also the opportunity to spill disgusting black sludge in your car!

Similarly was replacing a couple of old 60's rads for modern ones. I left the old ones outside while I fitted the replacements and had knock at the door before I'd even finished the job. It was just a bloke passing in a car.
