I’ve just finished tiling the walls and floor of a wet room bathroom, and the next task is to fit an 8mm shower screen - this will go between the bath and the shower to reduce splashing.

It comes with the back rail to fix to the wall, plus a wall brace but doesn’t appear to have anything for the bottom edge where it will sit on the tiles.

Looking online, one option is to sit it in a metal U-channel much like the back rail, and I’ve also seen clear rubber channels they can sit on. The other option seems to be to sit the glass on some 4mm transparent glass setting blocks and then clear silicone along the join on each side. I’ve also seen.

Any suggestions on the best approach? Aesthetically the clear silicone option seems the best, but it won’t be as secure as a metal channel.

Thanks

Ours was done by a pro bathroom fitter, A channel up one wall and the brace over the top, then it's just silicone both inside and outside where it sits on the shower tray.

Been there four years come December and still feels solid as a rock.

Without measuring I can't be sure but I'd say it's 8mm glass.

If it's a wet room, does it need to seal to the floor?

We didn't bother with ours, it sits about 6 inches above the floor. Nothing significant gets through the gap as the floor tiles are 'enveloped' to drain back in.

It won’t move if it’s siliconed properly.

Much cleaner look.

It’s a good question - I guess I was just trying to keep the floor dry beyond the shower area. It’s a wet room in the sense that it’s tanked and the floors and walls are tiled, but not in the sense that it’s only the shower area that falls to the drain.

As I said 8mm glass, because this isn't wet room it needed the silicone to seal the water in, but it keeps it solid.

We have a wet room ensuite and the screen just sits on the tiled floor.

As someone else said, it's a wet room!

This. Don't do both if you can not as you'll just get mould you cant get to.

Dow Corning 786.

I don't have much to add to the OP, but I have similar set up. How do you keep the glass clean? Mine gets limescale build up after just a few uses, kids don't understand about cleaning after showering and Viakal isn't the solution they want you to think it is

Citric acid , washing up liquid and water mixed iin a spray bottle. Peanuts. Works brilliant. Can get big tubs of citric on amazon etc. Useful for toilet limescale/stains too.
