I've had a patio for some years now.

Over that time it's got contaminated with paint, oil, some weird stuff the glaziers used on the patio doors, and dog vomit.

Lovely.

My domestic jet washer cleans the contaminants rather than removing them.

What's the best way to get rid of them?

I could get someone in with a commercial grade jet washer but I was thinking laterally and wondered about ice blasting or soda blasting.

Any suggestions? The patio is laid in Indian black sandstone I think.

Sandstone is not up to your kind of abuse, it's porous. And soft.

You can either try to remove the contaminants chemically, or physically grind away the contaminated surface.
But some stains may go quite deep.

Some chemicals may affect the colour or even damage the stone.

You could try getting the worst of the oil out with solvent and rags.
Detergent might remove a lot.
Caustic soda can be effective on concrete, not sure what it would do to yours though.

Maybe when you've done what you can, some kind of sealer or other coating might mask the remaining stains somewhat?

The nozzle that spins round with the pressure washer is pretty good. It's almost powerful enough to remove flaky sandstone and will definitely remove flakey pointing so some care is needed.

Chlorine ( bleach ) takes off moss etc and also basically takes the colour or of dirt so that will work quite well on stains.

Brick cleaner ( hcl ) can dissolve lots of things mostly organics. Rust with the purple fallout remover you use on cars.

Those will get most stuff out. Try on small bits and see.
