Afternoon,

After some advice on the fixings I should use to mount to traditional style garage concrete panels (the ones with pebble dash on the outside).
Im wanting to mount a couple of fairly light cabinets and some shelving if possible - won't be holding a lot of weight.

Unsure if wall plugs will be up to the job, or if I should drill all the way through and plate from the other side.

Will be planning on mounting on the thicker sections of the panels;

Many thanks.

You can use screws and plugs into the ribs to mount plywood sheets that you can then fix to anywhere.

Be carful with depth that you don’t blow the surface on the outside, and they’re usually as hard as hell!

Not just hard, but full of steel rods I think?

What my Dad had to do was wedge thin metal brackets into the panel joints and fix using the connecting bolts.
Also, you can hang stuff from the rafters.

Having dismantled and broken up one of these garages, they are (as mentioned above) filled with re-bar so are challenging to drill and are quite brittle as they are so hard. Maybe very small pilot holes you can easily fill would be a good starting point.

Good luck.

When I had one of these garages, I bolted CLS uprights to the holes that hold the two sectional panels together, then screwed into the CLS

Used these:

Along with some long coach screws and it was as solid as the garage.

These concrete panels are very tough to drill and generally have rebar running through them

You can drill the concrete but you might hit some rebar and have to start again until you learn where the bars are in the panels. You'd also probably want to go all the way through.

The better solution is that these panels have brackets or bolts that tie them to each other. It looks like your design has bolts? In that case you can remove them and fit a metal U bracket (some simple steel strips maybe 3/4 inch wide that you bend to create the U that's the correct width and drilled on the limbs for the bolt to pass through) and the bolt replaced. That then gives you simple, robust French cleats which you can then hang any cupboard set up from.

You will, however, potentially need some form of support for the base of the cupboards unless they're specifically designed to be strong enough to be held just at the top.

Use the existing bolts shown in your pick to nut and bolt a sheet of ply or similar, then screw to the ply.

Just as an update to the thread - managed to drill 6x30mm and use Fischer duo plugs.

Used Bosch CYL-9 multi, one bit did the lot.

Each OSB panel secured by 9 fixings, feels nice and solid.

Will be putting the worktop together tomorrow, so that should further secure things - not that I think its needed.

Many thanks for all the advice
