Drill bit storage

Hot topic I know!

I have loads of loose drill bits, wood, HSS, SDS etc. I'd like a neat way of storing them and wouldn't mind hearing some ideas.

In my head, I'm probably imagining a deepish tray (maybe 100mm ish) with lots of small compartments so different drill bits could be stood in their assigned sections. I cannot for the life of me find anything suitable!

Cheers. I like those but not really what I need as I have for example multiple 10mm Masonary bit says or multiple 5mm HSS. Just wanted some way of grouping them together in some sort of sensible fashion.

The tall ones might be more the sort of thing I'm after at least for most things. Some of the bigger masonary stuff and SDS chisels etc could live somewhere else I think.

An old ice cream tub works for me!

I use the dewalt tough case - solid solution, with modular additions with smaller cases that clip together, and also connects to tstak tool cases for easier transport (if you use dewalt tools).

Thanks folks. Very much appreciated. I might play around with the drilled wood option for some stuff thought I want some of it to be pretty portable so maybe this will be a two pronged solution.

Wait....

It's easy - check the drill bit sizes and order the same to drill the holes.

It's foolproof and works every time with no mistakes.

Thought I would add this - someone won't get it.

Not the best example but it works . Ive got more drill bits than i know about but these are easy to hand in the garage.

This is for jeweller's burrs and mops but you could make something similar for drill bits.

A lazy Susan bearing would allow you to turn it and choose a bit.

If you've got sets buy a proper case, if it's just random then all sorts of options exist. I'd be wary of a solution that involves the sharp end being at the top for grabbing or accidentally landing on. Doesn't do the drills much good and I've got the scars to show what can happen to fingers.

Had fun working out a solution for the big SDS ones, the smallish ones go in cases but the long (600mm/1000mm) ones are shipped on hangers and those don't work well once you've pulled them off the first time. Ended up using some rectagular duct as a vertical holder.
