The resulting leak from my failed ballcock was very minor (he made me listen to the large interval between the water drop!), and on a normal day, it wouldn't matter due to the regular use of the shower/toilet/taps etc.. However, I went on a 2 weeks holiday so the water tank wasn't getting used, hence the excess was slowly escaping out of the disconnected overflow pipe situated above my bathroom!! The insurer guy told me this was a common occurrence and advised I should switch off the mains water supply whenever I go away on holiday (at worse, if any leaks occur, it would limit damage from just the residual water in the tank).
