Buildings insurance and tree!
Discussion
The blasted surveyor has put the line "the property has tree(s) within 5m of the property", or words to that effect, on the valuation.
so i am obliged to tell the insurers now aren't I?
like most houses in the entire world of course it has trees with 5m... he's refering (albeit not explicitly) to one in particualr which is fair enough because it is very close... but in our old house we had an enormous tree in the road in front of the house and it wasn;t mentioned in the valuation so we didn;t have to mention that... how is this fair?!
but even when we get this tree (professionally) removed.. what do we tell the insurers because there will still (obviously like all other houses) be trees within 5m..!
will we just have to get another surveyor round or something?

Are you obliged to tell an insurance company about a tree within 5m? I have never heard of it and certainly never been asked or seen anything in my terms and conditions. I would apply for the insurance as normal and if they ask, tell them. If they don't, don't.so i am obliged to tell the insurers now aren't I?

well the surveyor said so... maybe it's our lender..??? it makes sens because of root damage.. but only if it's massive and very close. not a load of normal tress that are kept quite low... which the others are. it's only this one that's right by the house and even then i think it's only a hawthorn or something...!
Dare I suggest that even if the surveyor had not metioned it if a bloody great tree is that close to the house you would have to mention it if asked the question. Also do insurance companies not insist on disclosue of all facts that might affect the risk, even if they do not ask the question?
