Water butt pump
Discussion
I was just wondering having moved house a few months ago with a decent size garden and lawned areas whether or not it is possible to use water butts to feed sprinkler systems? There are currently 3 huge water butts (I'd estimate a good few hundred gallons per water butt) that I would like to use to feed a sprinkler so is it possible to use something like a dirty water pump to feed a sprinkler?
Yes you can. I have done exactly this, Fed three sprinklers 50m apart up a hill from a 1000ltr container. I actuality had two sets of these as the pump would not do 6 sprinklers, but the distance was very long. I ended up feeding the sprinklers in parreI as they lost too much pressure in series. I even found a timer that will turn the pump on every 10mins. It was for keeping dust down on a road whilst we had heavy lorry movements.
Got the pumps from machine mart, however you have to get the right one, don't get the one with a pressure vessel. I am away from work till Wednesday. Will have a look then.
I fed the pump to a 4 way hose lock splitter and ran a pipe to each sprinkler.
ETA - tried the hose lock pump and it was no good.
