Bought a storage box to hold the cushions for our patio furniture last year, and it sat in the garage for ages awaiting
a) a new bit of patio for it to sit on to be built, which was done about three weeks ago
b) some dry weather to build it

The instructions were comically bad - didn't note that you had to build the box upside down, and referred to 'assembly of the glove compartment' but eventually got it built and it is very nice and solid.

This is the one: https://www.mazeliving.co.uk/product/aluminium-sto...

The lid has gas assisted struts and a nice handle, but no way to fix the lid down to prevent strong winds from opening it. Only need to lift the lid a few inches before the struts open it, so it does feel a bit vulnerable.

I did think about riveting a couple of these on to the lid and top surround of the box so I could use a small padlock to keep it closed, but is there a better solution?

I would use one of these:

Or maybe magnets hidden between the lid and the top rail of the box.

Maybe.... biggrin

My wife suggested hanging something from the handle which would look almost as bad!

This is genuinely what I do, 2 bricks actually.

Suppose we all have different standards of aesthetic acceptability!

A plant pot also works.

We got a similar box, wind kept getting under the lid and lifting it.

Pair of each of the above cured it, one either end

Or locks if you prefer, it came with one el cheapo combination lock didn't matter what number selected it still opened.

I used self tapping screws to attach a couple of bits of webbing with plastic clip/buckles on them. It seems to have done the job.

I would just use a brick but other options are magnetic catches (can hide them inside), the clasp or toggle type latch above, or seeing as we are on PH, spring bonnet catches. Toggle latch probably the most secure if you can drill / fit to the Ali frame.

After a bit of a weird delivery failure from Amazon, the catches finally arrived today. Just tried one in place (with double sided tape) and I think it will be ideal. Not sure whether to place one in the middle of the handle or use two and place them either side of the handle (more outboard than the photo).

Looks good, and 100% secure, though I'd set it slightly lower.

Are you going to use bolts or self-tappers?

NB The handle mounts have rotated slightly.

Yes, will centre it a bit more neatly when I do it for real. I was thinking rivets. No access to the back of the mounting faces so can’t bolt it on.

I noticed the handle mounts weren’t level. It was pre-fitted but hopeful I can adjust
