In the past two weeks, we have had two dead hedgehogs in our garden.

Each time, they have been out during the day in the days leading up to their demise. I assumed this pointed to hunger and so I left some cat food out in a feeding station. Alas, it hasn't seemed to help.

We don't use any chemicals on our garden so I can't think what might be killing them (they do not appear to be injured).

Any ideas? The kids are getting a bit upset

Sounds like they have come out of hibernation and eaten something that has not agreed with them.

Given they feed on bugs in leaf litter etc is it possible they have been sprayed with something?

Slug pellets etc are generally safe for small animals.

How sad. It can be water that's the issue. Usually only in the depths of summer but around here it's already been dry and maybe as they come out from winter they need an easy source?

That's a good shout, maybe I'll put some containers of water in the bushes
