Hi All,

I need home insurance - property is unoccupied due to bereavement, & probably will be for 6-12 months whilst the contents are sorted, house decorated and minor jobs completed, & sold.
The existing insurance provider from when the house was occupied has declined to extend the cover any further.

I've tried getting some quotes online but they all come with major exclusions to the cover due to being unoccupied.

I don't necessarily have an issue with that, the contents etc don't have any real monetary value, but do want cover for major things that could affect the building like subsidence/landslip/fire/flooding/structural issues etc, which is also excluded.
It's a 1930s house, no obvious problems but it is built on a steep hill & some of the other nearby houses do have history of issues & ground movement.

Can anyone recommend a broker or company I can contact?

I don't mind conditions like...keeping the heating on, regular documented visits etc. Someone will be going round regularly, possibly even staying overnight. It occurs to me that Unoccupied in insurance speak could be interpreted as nobody even seeing the house for 12 months, hence large exclusions.

Just Google insurance brokers for your area.

I did for our town and was surprised to find around 10 listed, they'll do the legwork and find some quotes for you.

When we did a major renovation on this house we used NFU, but they would only do it for 6 months, we ended up moving in with the builders still working here, although mostly outside work to do.

Later had a fall out with NFU and found a broker, we've had 3 different companies over 20 years ,
