Hi all

I've just had a new roof built due to a few leaks minor leaks in heavy rain.I've not gone for the cheapest quote and reputable company ect. I've left them to do the work and supplied tea.

I just wanted a sanity check really as frankly the work looks awful to my eye and I would be ashamed to put my name to it. I've asked them to return tomorrow to sort out but lost all faith now but they might surprise me.

If I'm being a fussy git please tell me to wind my neck in or if it's truly awful let me know.

The sarking felt won't be waterproof with that detail. There should be a pipe flashing and the pipe should have a bend to make it vertical as well as all of the external pipeworking being black. Nails pointing through is poor form - dangerous and nail not utilised to full strength. Part of the problem to solve this is that most (all??) of the pipe stuff is perhaps down to the plumber rather than the roofer.

Thanks for reply, the pipe was vertical on the old roof prior to the work being done.

They have said they will sort, nails thing is just st, I normally do work myself but had to get a few things done I'm just doubting my sanity as no work ever seems to a good standard.

In fairness, the nails may not be their fault (if there’s not too many like that), looks like the work of a nail gun and the nail has hit an awkward bit of timber that’s sent the nail off course, you wouldn’t really know.
The detailing of the lead slate/felt and knocking the pipe out of plumb is a bit rough though.

Nails are probably at a batten join on a rafter where you would side spike to avoid splitting the end of the batten.

The membrane is ropey to say the least. Should at least be star cut and taped around the pipe.
