My lawn sits on a very solid clay base and, although it looks fairly decent from a distance, it feels like I’ve hosted a polo match on it whenever I walk across it.

I’ve had problems in the past with parts of the garden flooding, so I think certain areas have sunk over time. As a result, it now feels lumpier than ever.

I was wondering whether a good topsoil and sand mix might help level it out. I've tried topsopil in the past and it's never really worled that well - it just sinks within the year.

I’ve had “lawn experts” round before. The last one said he would need to lift the whole lawn and re level it, which was going to cost around £2,500 back in 2021. While I do not necessarily disagree, I suspect that within five years it will probably end up back in the same state again.

It's around 50m x 10m

Hire a turf cutter. Remove all the turf, get rid of it, skip? Or a few skips. Ship in 5 tonnes of top soil, spread out until happy and seed it.

I’d just pour topsoil and girder it and reseed, keep doing it every year until it’s level.

I plan to do this on mine as it’s similarly rough/lumpy under the overlying smooth countering/flow.

You using sand as well? Only asking as I was over the golf course today and they seem to just use sand.

No prob just soil.

As long as it’s bone dry it’ll go like sand in consistency.
