Keep hearing them cawing all the time and woke up the other day to see at least 8 bright green parrots sitting in my apple tree having a right old feast.

By the time I got my camera, all but one had scarpered. This is SW London btw.

Don't really know my birds, but is that a parakeet (sp?). Seen them near the Serpentine in Hyde Park during the summer. You tend to hear them rather than see them. Noisy critters. smile

Yes. Released pets and escapees doing rather well.

The big question is whether a diet of apples will make them taste better?

It is, I live near Hampton Court and so have flocks of thousands of the dam things flying and skwaking all the time. You tell other people what they are and where you live and they don't believe you.

Not sure if it is the case but have been told by several locals that they are protected so you cant catch or kill them, as such they have no natural predators and breed like feck, at this rate in a few years they are going to out breed the local population of flying rats.

Pretty birds though.

They do round ours, it was a nice surprise 10 years ago when they were pretty rare to see them. Now though it seems a group of about 100 - 200 have chosen the 2 oak trees at the end of our road as home. On the funny side it pisses all the cats of no end and more then one has had to be rescued from the trees after a failed attempt to get to them.

Worst thing about them, apart from the noise, is that they are wasteful feeders. They'll take a beakful from one apple or fruit and then move on to the next one.

Well more fool them as all the half eaten ones have gone into the compost bin and they'll be the ones begging once the real cold sets in and there is nothing to eat. biggrin

So they breed like chavs and live in huge appartment blocks. I can see that being a problem.

Airborne version of Japanese knotweed. Easy to get in the crosshairs though. Lure into back garden by repeatedly shouting 'who's a pretty boy then?'.

biggrin IIRC all wild birds are protected. There is a short list of a few who are deemed pests and may be shot, the rest are illegal to dispatch. Even then you must ensure they are killed with an approriate weapon - no longbows or napalm smile

as they are not a native species and they are threatning the natives, they are being culled in certain places, they are a bit like the grey squirrel- cute to look at but VERY much a pest

Head above parapet moment here - please be gentle. You could equally argue that certain other immigrants are doing better than the natives - a local skip hire firm guy who was a neighbour of ours openly said he always chose to hire eastern europeans for their work ethic. Do we wish for the best, or continuation of the same old?

It seems really odd to me that employers can openly say (and practice) those kind of ideas and avoid prosecution but if they said more or less the opposite...

That is inbred in them due to their DNA.

To take a bite and then drop the fruit so that the seeds in it can take root and grow again.
More use in their native habitat than the UK. smile
