Had a real first at school today, something I'm quite chuffed a lot of kids got to see up close and "real" in what is a bit of a city school I guess.

Our first two roosters turned out to be our first rooster and our first hen and started popping out shiney blue eggs so we rustled up an incubator and our first eggs have been hatching 21 days later, 2 yesterday, 1 over night (took him nearly 14 hours to get out!!) and then another 2 during lessons today. Great (and cute) stuff so I thought I'd share!

Looking tasty lick

I bet the stripey one would be awesome spatchcocked.

Perhaps the kids could devise recipes?

Really nice to see schools teaching about wildlife, more should do that instead of just books and films, but they need to teach the correct terminology.

It's a 'Cockerel' not a 'Rooster' in the UK.

Maybe the teacher wanted to avoid sniggers about the word 'cock'? wink

cool. its great that you can do that in school without the health and safety brigade going on about hygiene or some such stupid comment.

Last egg hatched today, that's 8 out of 9 fertilised eggs sucessfully hatched, and most of it all went out live on a webcam across the school website. Great enthusiasm amongst the kids.

Looks like they are doing really well. Is the school going to keep them all or are they going to be sold on?
