Poorly Jack, has been diagnosed with thickening of intestine walls and very enlarged lymph nodes causing toilet issues, long wait over the weekend until blood results Monday and biopsy result Thursday to find out if it treatable or if is cancer. 13 years of unconditional love from him and I can't do a damn thing for him now.

There are cancer treatments. And Dogs cope very well with it. You can start with Zara's Herbal Tea.

And give him lots of cuddles.

My mum and dad's border collie has myeloma and has now had two rounds of chemo, which she's come through like a champ. A couple of days feeling sorry for herself at the start of each session but then back to normal with vigour. After months of subdued dog - we thought she was getting old but that's ludicrous at only 9 years for a Collie - it's amazing to have her back to her old self.

Thanks for the encouraging news on your dog, we had a follow up appointment at the vets last night and the blood tests show some liver enzyme issues which we knew about, also a B12 deficiency which we did not know about! we have to wait for the biopsy results to plan a way forward. Jack is much livelier and is more like the little terror we are used to! at his age of 13 I am amazed at his powers of recovery and we keep our fingers crossed for positive news later this week

just had a call from the vet regarding biopsy results, good news not cancer! thumbup it appears he has developed an allergic reaction to some food which has caused the issues with the intestine walls, the vet is quite positive with a tweak to the diet we can get Jack sorted. this is wonderful news for us as these last few days not knowing have been awful.
thank you all for your kind words and encouragement

to bring this up to date, Jack is still not right, continually straining to empty his bowels, despite a long and expensive course of treatment (£2000) the vet decided he needed to be sedated for bloods and x rays to see if there is any change to his intestines. He is such a little fighter but it is breaking our hearts to see a great little dog in March slide down hill so quick, he now evacuates his bowls around 8 times a day, passes water everywhere, we have now got a box of puppy pads to try and keep his bed etc dry. I am just so worried about the little fellow

frown, I really know how stressful this will be for you, I really hope they can find some answers for you and get the right treatment going for him. Will be keeping my fingers crossed.

Thanks BEX, they have just discharged him, the lymph gland has gone down a little but he is very anenemic, he has had five teeth out for good measure! he is on soft food for two weeks and has to have B12 and anti biotic injections once a week for the foreseeable future, I know I being stupid he is 13 but he is my little boy and has given nothing but unconditional love and me, the useless human cannot fix him.

Just to update you all we sadly had to put little Jack to sleep Friday evening he went downhill very quickly and was crying when he had to do his business, they wanted more tests and biopsys taken but we decided he had suffered enough and we wanted to remember a little man when he was on top of his game. it has been a weekend filled with tears but he is at peace now and playing with no pain
rip little man

Oh no frown I'm so sorry. My thoughts are with you.

It's very easy to get caught up in trying test after test it takes a lot to say when enough is enough. I went through phases, wondering if I should refer Jimmy for more tests etc but I couldn't see him put through it knowing it was very unlikely to change the grim prognosis.

You did the right thing for your friend and don't doubt yourself about it.

RIP Jack
