We're considering another pup/dog so I've been looking online at terriers.

On one particular site, with very few exceptions, all the ads seems to be placed (or at least penned) by the bottom of the pikeish chav pile.

Here's some examples:

ad on site said:
black lakeland terrier bh ring for more detail as i not tht good on computer !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ad on site said:
german terrier to sell a line of work on wild boar and fox. Parents of puppies with FCI pedigrees of kennel in the hands of hunters, parents come from Poland and Slovakia. It is a dog, a commando who is not afraid of anything.
I'm not purposefully trying to come across as superior or a snob but I can't quite reconcile the wording (or the reasons some of them are for sale) with that fact that these dogs are supposed to be a loved part of the family.

Unless of course, they aren't, in which case, the ads should warrant further investigation.

I actually feel quite unsettled at the thought of the life some of these dogs might have.

You expect a loving caring owner to advertise their dog in the first place?

Only use KC register breeders and avoid the puppy farming pie people chavs.

Check ChampDogs. Check the breed clubs... If you have a specific breed in mind I may be able to find a reputable breeder.

Didn't really have any expectations for such adverts, which I why I find it so unsettling.

J&J - we're considering a terrier, Lakeland, or Welsh (not a tard though biggrin)

Or poss Irish or Airedale.

Only at the enquiry stage, would definitely consider a rescue too.

I know what you mean. I was looking through adverts to get a dog (one that needed rehoming) and the amount of adverts that dont have photos and say nothing about the dog or who have written the advert in text speak is amazing. I eventually found a dog and have had him for nearly 2 weeks but you could tell from the advert that he was loved very much by his previous owner as they were unable to care for him due to illness and they wanted to come and see our house first to make sure they were comfortable letting him go to us, which was fine with me as I could tell that they cared for his welfare. Most online adverts are awful.

Good luck in finding one!

I have asked about for some breeders but in your shoes I would most certainly be off to a rescue place.

Been given a name but not helpful as I don't have more (yet) - a chap in Wales though - is that too far?

Word of warning. A very good friend did likewise and bought a Lab with congenital eye problems. By the time the problem manifested itself she and her partner were too attached to the dog to even consider returning it (and because it is theoretically treatable, although not cheaply) and so they have kept him. The breeder was, to my mind, particularly opaque as to the possible cause (clearly a breeding issue) and the extent to which other dogs may have been affected.

At the end of the day, people who 'farm' dogs do it for profit or go bust. End of.

I should add that if you look at what is required for a KC breeder (including the Assured Breeder Scheme) it really is not much (in fact I disagree substantively with some of it as being best practice).
