something that sounds good after the Kennel name? or does it really matter? My dogs called Milo, kennel name is Nimoway Hardy (Nimoway being the Kennel name). Also it had to begin with H because all of the litter did. But for all i care he could be called anything

Come to think of it i didnt even choose it the breeder just gave me a list of 5 names for the 5 dogs in the litter and said "pick one for your dog"

Our three dogs are

Dino - Camboyne Star of Modena (our choice)
Enzo - Moloko Meladri (chosen by the breeder)
Lusso - Lochtaymor The Italian Job (chosen by us but it had to be a film)
There's a bit of a theme wink

(Camboyne, Moloko and Lochtaymor are the different breeder affixes)

Good luck choosing

Breeders usually have a theme when they name their litters. E.g. names of chocolates, names of Greek gods, names of planets etc.

Have they given you free rein?

They have given us free reign. Most of my stupid suggestions like "Lady floppy eared dog of York" have been rebufted. Its quite fun coming up with poncy names for dogs.

There is no kennel name as its not from an offical kennel and its a cocker spaniel, black and white in colour like a blue roam but its from a worker rather than a show breed.

I'm a bit confused. Why do you need a 'poncy' name if it is not KC registered?

She will be KC registered by all accounts hence the breeder asking for the Pedigree name. Our lab came from a non offical breeder type person and we have all his documents and even "the uncouth one" has a poncy name.

Uh, the breeder will need a Kennel Name in order to register the dogs...... It costs to register a Kennel name and it takes a bit of time to do so (at least it did a few years ago!).

Kennel name = Breeder Affix.....

Interesting our dog which is being born any time now will be named by the breeder for the Certs.
I assume we just pick what we want to call it.

I've been over ruled on dog and Rommel frown

Spot on, just remember you will have to shout the name loudly across a well populated field one day....... biggrin

Hence I have had Charlie, Henry and Fred......which is a whole lot better than Tiddles etc biggrin

Yes most breeders will select the Kennel Club names (often in themes) or in the alternative will say you can name them but it must begin with a specific letter.

Then you either use it as a basis for the pet name or make up something totally different, the dog won't care either way!!

Are both parents pedigree dogs? i.e. on the pedigree register at the KC? If not, the breeder can't register it as a pedigree dog anyway.

Assuming both parents are KC Registered Pedigree and the breeder has just opted not to register a 'Kennel Name' (used to be called an Affix), you can literally have anything you like up to 24 characters (including spaces)...

However, you can't duplicate a name that has already been registered by someone else (including deceased dogs), you can't have abbreviations, you can't have place names (e.g. of York) and a few other stupid rules! So good luck smile

The lack of a 'Kennel Name' may help you, actually, as few pedigree dogs are registered without one, so you are less likely to duplicate...

As others have said - don't worry too much about it, as, unless you enter shows and do well enough to have the name called out over the PA system, nobody will ever know (or care) what it is anyway...

All mine are named after 'interesting cars' beginning with whichever letter the litter is numerically - my current litter is the 'F' litter - that was tough biggrin
