We had Fudge from when he was about ten months old, as an adopted dog. We had to take him to the vet today at 13 1/2 to be put to sleep as his arthritis meant he was struggling to get up. It was definitely the right thing to do, the vet was fantastic, Fudge was so patient waiting to go in just like it was any other trip out and he really did just slip away without any fuss.

I'm utterly heartbroken.

Miss you, Fudge.

Today is some ways worse than yesterday. Got up today and had a "moment" when he wasn't on his bed in the lounge. I can't bring myself to move his bowls, his bed or throw out the mashed swede and carrot he had with his kibble. I made some toast and saved a corner of crust for him like I always do... Except there was no Fudge there.

Really sorry to hear Dibble frown

It's weird how we as humans get so emotionally attached to animals, we know that we are going to outlive them and we will have to watch them go, but it never seems real.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of your friend.

Nothing but time will fill the void he leaves, but I am sure you have many happy memories.

Please try to remember the good times you had with him and remember that you gave him a wonderful life.

You will get over it. I won't say fully, but I don't believe we ever get completely over our loved ones leaving us. But it will hurt less in time.

Not quite so sure "Space Dog Fudge" found this quite as funny as I did!

Thanks for all your thoughts, PHers. I really appreciate it.

That is so sad. frown

He had a great life, so try to remember all the good times, rather than just the last sad time.
