Friend has a four yr lab girl,
Not being a dog breeder is she too old to have her first litter?

No she isn't. Wouldn't want too leave it much longer though. If not mated successfully by the time she's 5 then they shouldn't continue to try.

Also need to ensure she's nice and slim (being older she may have had chance to gain weight) and been hip scored and eyes tested.

Ask a repo vet to check but if she is fit and healthy then no harm in it. Think the KC will register a little (first) up to 8 - which is too high IMHO.
