Birds nest in my porch roof

Hi all,

I have a porch roof similar to this ( this is just a google image!)



I have some birds nesting in the roof section of the porch, I have no problem with them being there for the time being as I do not hear them chirping unless I'm out on my drive..I'm pretty sure they are house sparrows.

After their breeding season is over and left the nest I intend to block the hole and stick a bird nest box on a near by tree...


So my question is when will the birds migrate and be safe to block the hole up?

Is there any health risks from parasites/mites?

Wait until late autumn before doing anything as it is illegal to disturb a birds nest between iirc March and September but I might have the months wrong but by late autumn you'll be fine. It should be fairly obvious once it has been vacated and I don't think you need to worry about ticks and mites.
