Don’t know what to think about this.
Coming back from a European trip with my dog.
We called in to the animal check in at the tunnel; there were 4 or 5 large vans full of dogs, being checked in.
I spoke to the people involved and they said, that the dogs (from Romania) were being saved, because they are shooting stray dogs there.
Is this right to transport the animals across Europe, (with the obvious stress some were under) to the UK?
I wonder what he chances of them being re homed successfully.

Shooting, strangling, running over, kicking, punching, poisoning, placing alive in waste compactors and in some cases stabbing.... In many cases the dogs manage to get away - I've seen all too many pictures of the badly wounded dogs in the vets.It is quite sad.
So, is it right to rescue them? Yes.

For any dog to be rescued and re-homed must be a good thing. But I personally would get one from one of our own charity run homes.Theres too many dogs here in need of good homes let alone importing them from other countries .
You obviously don't know that the UK takes 1000's of dogs from Ireland every year. Auto, surely bringing a dog to the UK is no different to you trundling around europe with your dog in the car admitedly with his family but think of all the diseases you are exposing the dog to for which he has no natural immunityEdited by BarnFind on Saturday 12th October 05:03

They used to neuter them. But are now rounding them up and killing them
In many cases inflicting terrible injuries on the dogs and leaving them on the streets to die. I don't know WTF they are doing but I am seeing a few dogs with their muzzles ripped/chopped off and the dog left in the street.I hope that people buy nothing made in Romania and refuse to travel there now.

So what do I do leave it in a kennel. (won’t catch anything there will it?)You obviously don't know that the UK takes 1000's of dogs from Ireland every year. Been taking my dog with me to Europe since it was possible,(On a seat strapped in, not in a cage in the back of a van) very small risk, if proper precautions taken.
More likely to catch something by going to Cornwall.

My main reluctance with taking dogs abroad is the rabies vaccine they need to have. However bringing dogs back that have been mistreated or will be brutally killed is no bad thing.

It's a problem all over that area.
My god I could have brought 50 back from Bulgaria.
There are just not enough homes for them all. Not sure bringing some over is going to make a dent. It's not as if there are not enough dogs to rescue over here
My sister and Bil have lived in Bulgaria for some time now she has 2 dogs herself which she took with her, but she says they have a big feral dog problem ,they run around in packs of 20 in all shapes and sizes. My god I could have brought 50 back from Bulgaria.

Often at night she can hear shooting, as the authorities are trying to get rid of them.
Sad but true.

While there went to a demonstration against it so I'd suggest many people are not happy about it. It's down to cost. Neutered dogs have collets and are chipped. To my knowledge they are rounded up not shot like we are doing to badgersI hope that people buy nothing made in Romania and refuse to travel there now.
