I've always wondered why my pond has never had frogs.

We dug the pond about 17 years ago. It's a big wildlife pond about 75 feet by 12 feet and about 5 feet deep. We have made a point of not adding fish so it's full of bugs and snails and stuff. Every spring we get loads of newts, both crested and smooth ones followed by lots of newt tadpoles.

But never any frogs.

Anyone know why frogs would not find or colonise our pond?

If I add frogspawn from another pond would the froglets come back to breed when they mature?

We definitely had an increase in frog numbers when wifey got some frogspawn from a pond about a mile away .We have the same amount (give or take)(yes she does have a head count on summer evenings)coming out every year.

I know exactly why.....it's because you have loads of newts! They don't both tend to colonise the same place unless it's really huge - newts go through frog tadpoles like you wouldn't believe. It's quite creepy watching them hunt!
And no, I'm afraid if you add frogspawn, unless it's a LOT, the tadpoles will just be snacks and you'll get a bumper newt crop, but not much in the way of frogs.......newts are very cool, so I'd just enjoy them instead.

I used to have quite a small pond that was rammed with newts, frogs and toads. In my experience, the crappier the pond, the more wildlife seems to like it.
