What do you do with your dog in the car?

Erm that's it! Options please.

I've tried a strap that plugs into the seatbelt but 1 he hates it 2 it allows him a lot of movement.


He will happily sit on a seat on his own but that's not very safe.

Mine goes in the passenger footwell.

Would prefer a dog guard in the boot option though for is and my safety.

Our dogs go in the boot, behind a dog guard. The GSD pup is so attached to me that he'd sit on my lap otherwise - not what I need while I'm driving.

Goes in the boot. He is very well behaved so don't need a dog guard. Probably should get one still but changing the car in a few months or so.

Jimmy always wore a dog car harness. The one that slips around the belt not clicked in. He always liked it and settled well. He used to be far more unsettled if ever I did not use it (rare occurrence)

I am planning to do the same with Bryn. Just getting him used to the harness now actually!

The harness is my favourite out of the various options available.but they must be have a swivel connection not fixed, makes it a lot easier for the dog to turn.

As a result I have lite experience of other options, a lot of people use crates in their boots.

Saloon, so I got a cheap rear seat cover from Aldi
Harness and seatbelt clip

If we are going somewhere overnight her bed goes on the back seat and she settles quite happily in it

He may get used to it. Jimmy took to his the very first time we used it. Just curled up on the back seat! I was expecting all sorts of problems but then that was Jimbo all over. Never questioned anything bless him

And as mentioned above we used to put his bed on the seat for long journeys (not just a blanket) so he could curl up snuggly in it!

Ours go in a dog cage in the back (old LWB Land Rover) and are covered up... you can hear them snoring over the engine/wind/tyre noise after about 20 minutes

Harness with strap that plugs into seat belt. Dog just settles well in the back of the car anyway.

Crash tested Harness (so many are not) which attaches to seatbelt.

Our Lab goes in the boot, unless I use the van then she sits next to me with the seatbelt through her collar.
It does restrict her movements, but that's not a bad thing.

Don't you worry that she may get strangled/ hanged should she fall off the seat in an accident?

Hard to explain , if you saw how I do it were the belt goes around her body through the collar so it doesn't move ,nor does Millie.
