Following on from my thread a while ago, Ive decided to go ahead and have a go at keeping my first reptile - a Crested Gecko.

The viv is all set up and heating/lighting all cycled up and running, the inhabitant is being collected on the 27th...

viv...




The incoming inhabitant..."Malcolm"

Malcolm ... top name he looks great. not had any experience with reptiles but he looks awsome as does his new digs. looks like youve done your homework on keeping em too.

You keep your fingers crossed its back on reasonably quickly....

I also have a 600 litre Cichlid tank....

Yeah, that would create a major issue.Mainly for the fish though, as without the filters flowing and correct temps, you stand to lose all the beneficial bacteria in the filters.This could then cause huge ammonia/nitrite spikes which are fatal for fish.

The Gecko would just about last, wrap the viv in a duvet and try not to open to allow heat to escape.

Anyway...

If you have access to hot water, or can heat water, a hot water bottle (with a cover so the gecko can't burn itself) placed in the viv gives the little guy somewhere nice and warm to lay if it gets too cold.

I wouldn't want one myself, if a mate got one, it's the first thing I'd look at if I went round their house!!

He's gorgeous.
