Dogs, boys or girls
Discussion
So, have decided to get a dog from a rescue place given that so many need homes.
Looking at something small such as: Bischon, King Charles, Yorkie, toy poodle or anything fairly small and scruffy.
But do we want a boy or girl and what considerations should I have?
Will all boys mark their territory? Do girls in season make a mess?
Im pretty sure any dog from a rescue place will be nutered, does that make a differeance?

In my direct experience, b
hes that haven't been spayed tend to start 'nesting' when they are approaching season, and as a result become fiercely territorial and defensive. You may find they hide things like their toys in seemingly random places, and woe betide you if you try to move them!
This is based on a sample size of 3, so it's hardly conclusive. I'm sure someone with more experience will be along shortly!

Well the b
hes won't go into season for starters. I've never really seen any difference in males after being neutered but others say it calms them down.I'd just go with the one you click with the best, it's the personality that counts.
I would be very surprised if there are any homes giving out rescue dogs that haven't been done. I Know for sure the one I work at has never given out a dog without it being done first... so a female being in heat simply won't happen.
I wouldn't worry too much about male/female - just go with whatever dog you like & suits your circumstances best. The only time you really need to think about male/female is if you already have a dog.

I know b
hes tend to kill the grass and they sometimes 'spot' when in season. And the infernal licking of everything.
Although I don't think it will matter if boy/girl as I guarantee as soon as you look in their eyes you will fall in love.

Its so exciting. We have been thinking about it for a few months and now ready to go ahead. We wanted to get Christmas out of the way as it would be a bit full on to introduce a dog to the mahem of that. Been to one resuce centre Sunday and have a list of all of them on line so just keeping on eye untill the right ones comes along but we are in no rush.

I don't know how you can visit a rescue centre and come home empty handed.

There was one particular little chap who we fell in love with but he was promised to another family. The resuce places are very particular about the ages of kids though. So we are limited as the youngest is 6. this immeaditely rules out RSPCA and Dogs Trust
One of the friendliest dog I've ever had was a medium size cross poodle.Intelligent dogs very good with children.Female dogs in my opinion are more faithfull don't tend to wonder off so quick. They are in season twice a year so have her spayed unless you want a litter.
Also I think they are braver than a dog.I don't like fussy dogs but a happy go lucky Sealyham Terrier to cheer you up is one of my favourite.
