Yep watching, my pup is on Lily's Kitchen smile
(little note - dogs do contain the gene needed to breakdown CHO, they've developed it through 1.000's yrs of domestication)

smile. Not sure our profession is going to come out well in this frown, though not surprised. They'll ignore the ones who do try.

Has anyone managed to connect to honeys real dog food website?
I suspect it has been overwhelmed.

I'm not liking his attitude. For a start to claim all processed foods are the same is bullst, Lily's Kitchen and Pedigree Chum are not the same. He has his own wares to sell, and the woman of |honey's criticising a vets for making money on a dog food, which is exactly what they are doing is hypocritical.

Funnily enough whilst I don't agree with a vegan diet I like the attitude of those guys smile

And I've finally seen the guy behind the which dog food site. That is a great website.

Absolutely Bex. I hold a franchise for Trophy so I`m biased. Our food has human grade meat, no derivatives, no colouring etc and we have around 25 different dog foods. I have hundreds of customers whose dogs thrive on our food. We can help manage weight issues, skin problems, food allergies and the dry kibble helps with teeth health and produces solid easy to collect poo.
As I say I`m biased but when Mrs B suggested buying the franchise I was as sceptical as it was possible to be, believing dog food is dog food is dog food. Now I`m totally convinced and believe in our product, a belief built on actual experience of feeding our own dog and the experiences of our customers.
Yes it`s a business, nothing wrong with that.

Just watching it now I'm back from I uni for the weekend. There is a surprising amount of biased and twisted opinions being spouted on this programme it's actually quite disappointing.
Not even bothering to comment on the vegan diet because IMO it's not appropriate for a carnivore.
And the claim that vet students get half a days training on dog food sponsored by a food company is absolute arse gravy of the lowest order. I can't speak for every university but we have had comprehensive lectures each for small, farm and equine nutrition and I did my dissertation on companion animal obesity and the prevalence of obesity related disease. This involved looking into the diets that are being fed to pets on a global scale. Now, yes cheap food has lower quality ingredients in it relative to human food however a lot of these 'derivatives' are those off cuts you see people feeding their dogs raw only they have been processed so they aren't as bad as you think although not my personal choice. And as for those people claiming that their dogs arthritis/skin condition was cured by changing the diet, they can not be fully believed either as they didn't say what other treatments they were on at the time. Was it the food change or the steroid for example?

Raw food is an excellent diet and the only part of the programme that is close to a fair and accurate presentation. The high quality pet foods such as Lily's kitchen, honeys etc are a very good choice as well and if you're prepared to pay for them then absolutely go right ahead. Although as the term 'nutritionist' doesnt really mean anything I hope their advice correlated with the vets that were consulted at the time.
And the high quality commercial pet foods that were developed with veterinary help are also an excellent choice. They are balanced to suit a variety of needs of dogs and are completely acceptable as a diet. These would be my choice for my dog.

I would never suggest any form of diet or treatment to any of my clients because of a financial insentive. Everything I suggest will come from years of training and background research into each condition and treatment option and will be what is best for the animal! If that isn't the case for some vets then I am disappointed to hear it but it sure as hell won't be me!
Sorry for the mild rant but I feel some things needed to be straightened out a bit on behalf of my beloved future profession.

Well, I thought I'd give Honey's a go. The first months worth turned up last Thursday. My dog absolutely loves it. He seems a bit calmer too, but that may be a bit of 'placebo effect'!

If this is his first raw time, then his poo will also be smaller and less smelly. His coat will also improve as will his breath.

Yes, his first time with a raw diet. His poo is definitely smaller but also much firmer. Can't testify to it's smelliness as I always hold my breath when I pick it up.
His coat is definitely better, even after just a few days. I can feel how much softer it is. I'll probably stick with it as it just seems to make sense to me.

It isn't all that expensive.... I have two 40 kilo Rottie pups.... They both only need 1 kilo of food per day and works out at around £6-00 per day... Plus all the added health benefits....

Well we feed three dogs (8 or 9 stone each) and three cats for about £80/100 a month....

Oh, we don't get it all pre-prepared though, for example my tripe is from the butcher and it is whole, I then cut it up.... Chicken backs/carcasses at 80p a kilo or so. It's things like liver and heart that boost our per kilo price, we get a whole ox liver or whole ox heart and cut them up ourselves too.

Wow.... Now that is a real raw diet.... And a bloody healthy one too.... If I had the time I would go to the lengths of prepping it myself, but unfortunately a busy work life etc means that the quick route is more convenient... This is why am so happy about the natural insticts range as is literally all raw, only difference is the whole ingredients are minced and pre packed for freeze storage.. But you pay the premium for the convenience...

This isn't raw but it is healthy, convenient and cheap and can be made in huge batches in advance. My dogs are loving this, and I'm regularly giving them raw meat and bones also - http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

They had a bag of that each this morning, and they've just eating a couple of raw chicken wings each. Yesterday it was a bag in the morning then a chunk of pig off cuts. The day before that it was a bag then a raw fish.
