Geese skeins

Just seen the biggest skeins of geese I've ever seen going overhead here in Dunfermline. Very noisy too. Must have been fahzens of them. Seemed to be going south west ish.
Anyone know of any country lore where huge amounts of overhead geese are involved and what it portends?

A pile of them just left the Isle of Wight as well.

Huge numbers winter in the UK. They were most likely heading off to roost.

They'll return to their breeding grounds in Greenland/Northern Europe at the end of March.
