My fiancee's nan lives next door. She is 70+ and has been given a Jack Russel for Christmas by one of her family. The dog doesn't get walked but the thing is the nan goes out every day for hours on end and this dog is barking from the minute she leaves till the minute she comes back.
The dog is left in a room which is 4ft long and 3ft wide.

Do I do something about it or ignore it?

Definitely do something! And let us know the outcome as this is very unfair on pooch!

I agree, it's so unfair on the poor creature.

As above, you can't ignore it, totally unfair on the dog, it's probably going stir crazy at this poor excuse for an existence. Please help it.

Yes Chris it will be under the stairs, it is more like 6ft long.
Any suggestions what can be done?
A word has been had by my fiancees dad who is the nans son. Obviously nothing has been done by her.

The dog can be heard when walking past the house so I was thinking an anonymous tip to the RSPCA?

If she won't walk it, can you offer perhaps?

One of our neighbours, has major arthritis in her knees and is seriously overweight. Her idiot family got her a dog as she mentioned she wanted one for company, she wanted a small dog. They got her a big black Labrador! FFS! headache It lives outsides, in squalor for the last year but at least now lives in a pen and has doghouse etc now. Then recently they got her a chiwawa , didn't get on with it, gave that to her daughter, then another to another daughter, then eventually found the one for her. Non of those dogs get walked!

We get the labrador out when we can with our Husky.

RSPCA won't do a lot I don't think of it is being fed and watered and not left for more than 12 hours.

I'd speak to the nan myself and possibly just take pooch.

We have a labrador so don't want to introduce another dog into the house. It's not even my house neither as it is my fiancees mothers so she wouldn't be happy with a 2nd dog.
Just unsure what can be done. It is blatant she does not care for the dog as she knows that the dog barks for hours on end and still leaves it alone.

I feel sorry for the dog as it is obviously barking because it doesn't like how it is being treated when it is alone but I just don't know what I can do about the situation.

Why can't you offer to take the dog out when you walk yours, it's a start, at least it'd get out of the house every day for a decent length of time.

That is a good idea smile
Half of the time our lab gets walked at 5am or 1am though.
It would be a start but still doesn't change the dog being cooked up all on his own for hours daily frown
I presume now being exposed to this it does happen alot sadly.

For sure. My neighbours have a springer. Never seen him been walked since I got my dog 3 months ago. I now know why he barks all the fking time. I just dont understand how people can do it surely the poor animal must cause havoc. Ok I know I've only had mine 3 months. But rain or shine I love walking him. Such a great stress buster. I often don't realise how long we have been out walking.

The most common reason for not walking the dog (well alongside not enough time and I'll health). 'Well we have a big garden'. So that makes it ok!

That'll be our excuse when we move, but the plot is about one acre so lots of room for the dog/s (we will get more). They'll still get walks though as the local is about 1.5miles down the side of the canal beer

Well 1 acre is plenty of room smile but I'd still suggest walking for socialising and just experiencing different places, which you will be (even if the incentive, which is a good one, is a pint for yourself hehe. As you can imagine most peoples 'big garden's aren't 1 acre smile
