Was there yesterday. It's an OK day if you like dogs and/or showing.

Was there yesterday. Got a few friends showing, others with trade stands. It's a good day out if you are interested in dogs.
You can spend the day there and barely notice the "pompous showy people" as there is so much else going on like agility, flyball, canicross, trade stands, obedience, discover dogs.

Was there from 10.30 - 6 on thurs and only watched about 30 mins of my breed specific judging.
Also not all the people showing a up themselves, I know a few who will show their dogs but the rest of the time the dogs are charging around the countryside getting filthy doing canicross or having fun at agility.

Was up there today. I think its a good doggy day out, and we know a few people who show, so its nice to catch up.

It does have more than a faint whiff of pigeon fancier going on though, and I think there is ahuge amount of bhiness amongst the breed show dogs.

If you love dogs, then just spend the time in Discover Dogs and walking the benches of your favoured breed talking to owners.

I do agree on the concerns with breeding to standard though, some of the GSDs I saw looked rediculous amongst others too.

the owners are clearly bonkers. but it's always nice watching dogs obviously enjoying themselves. they can't help it that they're bred to within an inch of their life

Hmmm what on earth is this journo on about.

http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2014/mar/0...

The back biting outs me off there is so much animosity between breeders who have fallen out at others shows it's ridiculas.

The backbiting is at any show!! Too many people believe it is life and death and treat it accordingly.

I disagree that there was a huge amount of barking, it was much quieter than I expected.

Of course you would, its a great doggy day out. I had the chance of playing with two Australian Cattle dogs as well!

I went years ago to the working dog day/section. The terriers excelled themselves, most of the other dogs were asleep and boring while the jack Russells were barking, shagging, fighting and peeing on stuff hehe

Was that at discover dogs? I think I'd like that going to see all the different breeds.
What did you think?

If Im honest, apart from knowing some of the Smooth Fox terriers breeders (due to being an owner), then Disco Dogs is the main reason for going, its just such fun to meet other dogs/dog owners and hear the truths rather than the the press releases.....

Until yesterday, I had never met an Oz Cattle dog....... smile

Bet the bloody poodle or pom win. I'm rooting for the Wire fox, he is a stunning dog in the flesh.
