I've got to go to Southampton to pick up my new bike later (long story).

I had promised the woof a trip to the beach, so we are hoping to kill two birds with one stone. Does anyone know what the best dog-friendly beach is in the Southampton area (Say 20 miles in either direction?) I've done a bit of Googling, but local knowledge is preferred! Thanks in advance

There's a awful lot of beaches within 20 miles of Southampton, all of which should be dog friendly this time of year

And do you want sand or Shingle?

I'd drive down the Waterside and have a wonder around Lepe country park. The Royal Victoria Country park is closer still.

Thanks for your feedback. Yes I'm aware that looking for beaches on the seaside isn't quite a needle in a haystack, but it's still good to hear from locals (for example, as a West Country bumpkin I know that you go to Brean Sands rather than Weston for a good dog walk).

In the end I didn't see your recommendation until it was too late, we were choosing between Lepe and Lee on Solent and went for the latter. It was OK, a bit scruffy, but quite a nice open beach for the hairy one to have a run along.
