Hi all,

I am hoping someone can put my mind at ease. Our cat appeared today and has a very front swollen paw. its almost twice the size as the other one. It doesn't seem to be causing her any pain and I have touched all around it and she doesn't flinch. She is more than happy walking on it and jumping up and down. I was thinking a bee sting?

if it doesnt go down by tomorrow I am thinking trip to the vet. Thoughts from the PH massive

Our cat had a similar issue and we rushed him to the vet fearing a snake bite, as we have seen adders in the garden. The vet suspected a bite from a mouse or rat was more likely, and he recovered in 24 hours. I am afraid I can't remember if she gave him a steroid injection or not.

Definitely vets tom if not gone down considerably by tom.

If she were lame/ off food, licking it etc I'd say today but as no discomfort being shown tom should be ok, if it weren't a Sunday I'd prob advise a same day appt though tbh.

A sting is quite possible. Adder bite rare but not impossible would prob depend on your area. Mouse or rat bite also possible but I would expect more signs of it causing a bother.

Do have to be careful of issues like cellulitis with swellings like this or brewing abscess so appt am tom if not completely resolved by itself.

Any ticks, thorns, scratches or dried blood around the leg, paw or pad?

Not that i can see. I checked for any sort of wound. I think its starting to go down a bit now. She isnt effected or bothered by it.

I had a ginger tom years ago. We let him out in the garden for the first time and within two minutes he grabbed a bee who stung him in his paw. It looked exactly like that and went down by the next morning.

Paw back to normal size this morning so it looks like panic over. Will keep an eye on her through out today. Should have said in the opening post that this is there first spring outside so she probably batted a bee to see what it was. I suspect she will not be doing that again smile Thanks for all the input

My pooch keeps going after bees. Big bumble bees spending a lot of time on the ground and seem very slow - maybe it's a touch cold for them so they're slow abnd easy to catch by silly cats and dogs!
