He's a Springer, 11/12 years old, in very good health. The pinkish area is rough and uneven but he doesn't mind it being touched. I first noticed something there maybe three months ago but it seems to have spread a little, although I'm not sure. Any ideas please as I prefer not to run off to the vets at the slightest thing.

In-growing hairs possibly? Have you given it a gentle squeeze?

My old dog used to get something very similar, if you have it a gentle squeeze loads of hair follicles would come out.

maybe something to mention to the vet on your next visit

Not sure about the "lesion" or the wiseness of squeezing, could be a superficial infection, possibly folliculitis, which might explain the apparent squeeze effect, I wouuessld recommend pointing it out to your vet at the next visit, unless it gets sore, more widespread or bigger. Not much help I g

Thanks for the replies. I've Googled folliculitis (not pleasant!) and it's a possibility so I'll keep an eye on it.
