Assuming it is real, it is an astonishing video. The reason housecats domesticated the past 9k years was to protect humans' homes from small and medium baddies -- and they have lost little, if any, of that instinct. Great animals.

Seems to be getting coverage on US news channels, who might have fact checked it (or not!).

Certainly looks real. Saw it on Fb last night. Incredible footage. Well done cat! Now dog that does need removing, completely unprovoked attack.

I do suspect that the motivation may have been "that small hooman is my property" hehe

Well all reports suggest real, escaped from neighbours garden, taken by animal control continued to be aggressive so euthanized. Owner if dog actually called 911. Bite marks on leg seem consistent all fitting in with a genuine scenario.

And cats will charge like that when pushed.

I will continue to believe it happened until it is proven otherwise otherwise it is one he'll of a sick joke.

It is real.

There are several videos online of cats chasing off bears (and one hilarious one seeing off an alligator ) so amazing as the footage is I don't find it that surprising.

Cats are VERY territorial and very protective of their own young. Video looks like that natural instinct kicked in.

The 911 call has been released now so there is no doubt of it being real. The dogs owner actually made the call and surrendered the animal freely to police. It is now being held in observation for a further 9days (standard policy) after which it will be destroyed.

No suspicion the dog might be rabid?

That's where the quarantine period comes in but the owner has admitted the dog has always shown great dislike towards children riding bikes in the street.

Appears to be a case of unchecked/not corrected behaviour?

I thought usual procedure in the US when rabies is suspected is to euthanize and perform a direct fluorescent antibody test on brain tissue - could be that the boy is being treated prophylactically anyway, I guess, or maybe it's just a very low risk scenario.

This cat is amazing and definitely real. Cats can be vicious when threatened!

A pity the dog is likely to be killed for what is the owner's stupidity/failures.

Not really the dog was clearly a dangerous liability , it did not just give the kid a nip did it it was a full on bite

Its a good thing its being terminated

Apparently, the cat is called Tara and she was a stray the family took in five years ago. She bonded with the little boy from birth. They showed an interview with the family on the BBC.
