Hello,

Kids have just found a poor little critter that had almost hung itself in a net in the garage. Cit free and alive but appears to be rigid in defence or shock.

It's now in a box away from the kids with water and dog biscuits.

Any tips?

they can do the 'rigid with shock' thing for quite a while when there are people about...along with being generally quite grumbly when they get over it!

Were I you I'd take the box out to the garden and leave one end open and it'll bugger off sharpish i would think...certainly now its got dark anyway smile

Wet dog or cat food is a favourite.

Houdini, as he or she has been christened is toasty in some old tshirts and has plenty of water and dogfood. It also has a way out when it's ready.

Leeks, carrots a thick gravy and puff pastry...

Houdini pulled through in fine colours. Demolished the dog food prior to making his exit in the middle of the night.

Well done Houdini! Amazing little animals. They're said to taste somewhere between chicken and pork, but I've never had the heart............

awesome!! nice one smile

I really cant imagine there's enough of anything on a hedgie to make it worth eating...be a bit like cooking a hamster once you'd got rid of all the spines!

I've been waiting for years to get hedgies in our garden, finally got one to come through last year, now we have two regular visitors.

I can report they also like bacon rind. And are very VERY noisy when they feel frisky!

If you're going to leave out food for Hedgehogs, please leave only dry cat food.

They'll happily chow it down and it's much better for them than anything else you might reasonably have lying around.

Simon.

They love this:

They only get a few spoonfuls a night now though - I want them off looking for my slugs.

I left it out for the fox, but the hedgies beat him to it. Our two hedgies totally ignore the cat food (I've tried that), but love chicken wings!

Hedgies love un salted peanuts (pet grade), we have 5 or 6 that visit our garden and clear everything that is put down. As mentioned make sure you put water down as in dry weather it helps stop them dehydrating........Martin
